Finally a win (sorta). Got the CX500 put back together with new o-rings in the carb runners aaaaand it runs beautifully! Started right up on the first crank with half-choke, didn’t run on one cylinder until it warmed up like it used to, and the throttle response is amazing. Cut out a little bit above 8k rpm, I’m thinking I need to go to sliiightly fatter jets.
Unfortunatelymy spirited trip around the block to the gas station is all I can do because my tires are toast. How toast?
I’d rather not be riding a bike when the front tire de-treads. So I’m stuck fantasizing about the fun times I’ll have riding until I can scrape together $200 for tires. Damn it.
Video coming tomorrow.

Ever since I decided to get my 250 up earlier this week I have been stuck on cx/cb cafe racers all day. I may end up having to do one riding on the success of my plans for the 250. Sounds like yours is gonna be funz

Now that the bike is working, and as soon as you get new tires, bam, your car will be borked.

Think the car is already ahead of schedule, but the bike runs! Excellent.
Here’s some motorcycle comedy that is as old as the bike:

Hope you can get it fully road ready sometime in the near- ish future. Riding around by myself is fun, but it’s better with an obnoxiously loud CX500 chasing me.

Gotta say, this bike is lucky to have you. I love bikes that have histories and stories to tell behind their battered paint. Your CX is no different. This little thing has been through a lot. Best of all, unlike a lot of the bikes on my local Craigslist, you didn’t give up on it and sell it for scrap. Instead, it continues to ride! :)

Yep, that’s a dangerous game. I’m trying to be semi-responsible after buying tires for the Miata and signing up for TNiA at Heartland.

Yeah, I’m like 3x into it what this bike will ever be worth but that’s how projects go I suppose. Don’t want to give up my first bike, lol.

Look for some rebates on slightly “older” tire designs. I got a set of Metzler Karoo 3s for under 200$ and got a 50$ rebate. And that inclues a 21" front.....that’s a lotta fucking tire!
